This mountain area is situated partially in the province of Almeria and the province of Granada. To the south of them are the mountain ranges of Gador & Contraviesa. To the north is the mountain range of Sierra Nevada.
In two well known books you can read exclusively about this area "South from Granada by Gerald Brennan & Walking over Lemons by "
Here there are a number of rivers that run from Sierra Nevada that have snow most of the year. Trevelez, for example is the highest village in Spain.
This area in contrast to the desert of Tabernas, is rich in vegetation & fauna.
All of the Alpujarras are has many trecking pathways, some go from village to village, passing over rivers and reaching the top of Sierra Nevada (3480 metres), also there is the GR7 that runs from Athens to Cadiz in the south west of Spain.
This is definitely a very unique area to visit, truly magic.
