Declared as a Nature Park in 1987, the first Maritime-Terrestrial park in Spain, with various places with interest to visit. Next to the village of Cabo de Gata one can find salt flats that at certain times of the year have Flamingos, etc... The low mountains of Cabo de Gata are of a volcanic origin, this one can see very clearly, with it`s black rock in the form of lava. Within this area thre are virgin beaches and coves with fine lovely fine sand, where in many cases one can walk for several hundred metres into the sea. Some of the names of these beaches are: Los Genoveses, Monsul(Where part of Lawrence of Arabia was filmed), San Jose, El Playazo, Isleta del Moro, and many more. Here the sea color and it`s clearness is very similar to the sea in the Greak islands. Apart from this, the area is very interesting for trekking.
