Roquetas
de Mar
Roquetas de Mar in it`s past has been visited by
Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. These last left

the first century of our era, in the area called
"Los Bajos". With
the arrival of the hispanmoslems the coast was scattered
with towers and forts. Around the XIV Century Yusuf
I, after many pursues of the pirates was obliged
to fortify the maritimal frontiers in which was
included the Tower of Roquetas, which afterwards
was called the castle of Saint Ana (now being restored),
because in it`s chapel the image of this virgin

Los
Milares
One of the most important archeological sites from
the copper age in Europe. At least 5.000 years of
history. A city that gave shelter to upto 1.000
people. It is formed by a complex defensive system
composed by 15 little towers & 4 wall lines of walls.
With a necropolis of more than 100 false dome tombs,
for colective burials. Neat & solid tecnique of
construction in the buidings & tombs. With a great
delicacy & symbolism in the ceramic elaboration
(can be seen in the library in Almeria). After all,
a culture with advanced beliefs and tecnical knowlegde,
that even used the metallurgy of copper in the fabrication
of some weapons & tools.
One can visit the site from 10 to 13 hrs, mondays
to saturdays, but it is recommended to ring before.
In the C.M.S office we can help you with this.

The
Alcazaba castle of Almeria.
Built by the Arab Abderramān III over what was possibly
a Roman castle, as the Roman road known as the "Via
Herculea" passes by the castle. The Castle consists
of three fortified enclosures surrounded by battlemented
walls. It still has interesting halls and passages
open to the exterior.
